The Greater Western Sydney Region is located in Sydney’s west. It lies in the Cumberland Plain, covering nearly 9000 square kilometers of land with extensive residential, rural, industrial, commercial, institutional and military areas. It is made up of thirteen local government authorities:

The region’s suburbs have a blend of housing types, with predominantly modern, “McMansion”-type of houses and a mix of high and medium density apartment blocks. A large number of schools and tertiary education facilities in the area make this the ideal area for middle to upper working-class families. ,
With a wealth of public transport options including trains, light rail, buses, and ferries, as well as an excellent highway network, commuting around Western Sydney is easy. As is traveling to other destinations around Sydney.
The Greater Western population is over 2 million and a large multicultural community. While the majority is Australian, around 37% of the inhabitants are from elsewhere in the world.
The Costs of Living in Greater West Sydney
Sydney has the reputation of being one of the most expensive cities in the world. That being said, the Greater Western Region offers more affordable options in housing and lifestyle costs while being close to all of Sydney’s attractions. The average income is between $800 – $1500 per week with the average rent being between $300 – $550 per week.
Sought After Suburbs in Inner West
While it is generally a lower income area for Sydney, Western Sydney does have some remarkably high-income suburbs. For example, The Ponds, in the City of Blacktown, is the most highly advantaged suburb in NSW according to the SEIFA index of advantage-disadvantage.
Owing to Parramatta’s rise as “Sydney’s second CBD”, livability in the neighboring suburbs has been evolving. Harris Park, Parramatta, Rosehill, and Penrith are on the list of the top ten suburbs for home purchasers west of the Sydney CBD. And areas such as Castle Hill, Liverpool, and Blacktown have become Sydney’s most popular areas for home buyers, with more sales than any other suburb.
This is chiefly due to the diverse cultural activities and economical living in the area, as well as the development of new and improved infrastructure and recreational facilities.
A Popular Destination for Residents and Visitors
The Greater Western Sydney Region is home to many important historical landmarks such as Liverpool Hospital and Fairfield Railway Station. There are considerable stretches of national parks, waterways, farmlands, natural bushland and a range of recreational and sporting facilities. The area also encompasses fragments of critically endangered aboriginal Cumberland Plain Bushland and World Heritage sites in the Blue Mountains. The lifeblood of the agricultural and fishing industries in Sydney is the Hawkesbury and Nepean river system which is also a main recreational area for the residents of Greater Western Sydney
Western Sydney has a humid, subtropical climate with summer temperatures averaging between 28°C (82 °F) – 30 °C (86 °F) and winter temperatures averaging at around 17 °C (63 °F) to 18 °C (64 °F), depending on the location.
